Old Site — Barkovskoye
Barkovskoye (Barkovskiye Dachi) is a resort area on the northern shore of Lake Balkhash in Bertys Bay. Historically, it was a dacha community that gradually developed into a recreation area with an officially permitted beach. The shoreline is slightly rocky with a gentle entry into the water, making it comfortable for families with children. Compared with Torangalyk and Chubar-Tyubek, accommodation in Barkovskoye is more affordable and the area is closer to the city of Balkhash. The swimming season lasts from May to September, with water temperatures reaching +24…27 °C.

What to consider
Rocky shoreline
The entry into the water is gentle, but the bottom and shoreline consist of pebbles and rocks rather than sand. Water shoes are useful for both adults and children.
Crowded during the season
Barkovskoye is one of the most popular destinations on Balkhash. In July and August, especially on weekends, beaches and parking areas can be crowded. For a quieter holiday, visit in June or September.
Book in advance
Due to high demand, availability is limited during peak season. It is best to book 2–3 weeks in advance, and even earlier for long weekends.
Traffic and parking
On peak days, queues can form at entrances to the shore, while parking spaces near popular areas fill up quickly. It is better to arrive in the morning.
Mosquitoes near reed beds
Mosquitoes are active in the evening near reed-covered areas of the shore. Bringing insect repellent is recommended.
